Ultrasound

Musculoskeletal ultrasound involves the use of high-frequency sound waves to image soft tissues and bony structures in the body for the purposes of diagnosing pathology or guiding real-time interventional procedures.  Stephen M. Clements, MPAS, PA-C has integrated musculoskeletal ultrasound into his practice to facilitate patient care.  Stephen is able to understand the different ultrasound appearances of tendons, nerves, muscles, ligaments, blood vessels, and bones, and identify multiple applications for diagnostic and interventional musculoskeletal ultrasound. Advantages of musculoskeletal ultrasound include:

  • High-resolution soft tissue imaging
  • Ability to image in real-time
  • Facilitate dynamic examination of anatomic structures
  • Allows for interaction with the patient while imaging
  • Minimally affected by metallic artifact (ie, implants and hardware)
  • Ability to guide procedures such as injections and aspirations
  • Enables rapid contralateral limb examination for comparison
  • Portable
  • Relatively inexpensive
  • Lacks radiation
  • No known contraindications
